The start of a new collection...

Last autumn a good friend, who is also a maker, ask me to make her a necklace just slightly different from my usual pieces. We worked together to make a necklace perfect for her. We brainstormed a new shape, that of a petal, and went with a new, simpler chain. While we were at it we made the chain longer, this bigger pendant needs to be shown off! This joint venture reminded me how much I love exploring my craft and executing a new challenge. It really is the start of something new, maybe many things new!

This little state

I love this little state from the bottom of my heart. Being little unites us. We don't forget a face and usually that face is behind a small business we love. We support each other, promote each other and keep each other going. My jewelry business wasn't planned to take root here but it did and I am so very grateful to be a part of this community. Thank you for supporting, buying and pushing your love of handmade.

inspiration leads to exploration

Maybe you do or don't know this about me, I consider myself a hiker. I may not have a bunch of miles or mountains under my belt and may have just started less than a year ago but after hiking the tallest peak in the New England, then bagging the peak next door, I declared myself a hiker. There are 48 mountains in New Hampshire which are 4000' or higher and so far I have tramped over 21 of them. Each one is different, but all of them embrace me, nurture me and inspire me. I see the details others may pass by, the tiniest alpine flowers, berries, lichen, moss... I take pictures so I can take these memories with me, researching the names of what I met on the trail getting to know the mountains better and better with each hike. As I look over these pictures I see colors I want to use in my jewelry. Forms, shapes and textures I want to explore in metal. These adventures force me to explore in my studio. Here is a look at one of my first explorations (well, the first one to make it to my website, that is)...

When you are on a trail the colors you see are overwhelming. You can try but you can't ever fully capture nature's beauty. When I first saw black and neon green lichen creeping across a grey rock I was in awe that these colors happened in nature. I saw the rocky grey landscape as a canvass for things to grow over, blend with, become one with. I reflected on my jewelry and how I had taken a similar approach. Grey enamel and sheets of silver had become my canvasses in which I explored colors and textures. I knew one day I would stray from my go to palette and try as best I could to capture nature in glass and metal.

this earring style had long been retired. a good customer asked if I would make her a pair and I couldn't resist. How lucky am I that she trusted me to experiment with my new palette?

There are more of these designs on my bench, not yet completed, completed designs are not yet photographed, and some designs are in my head or sketchbook (aren't they the same?). Just as with my city dweller collection, I am slowly creating a summit this way collection which grows and evolves with my adventures and I hope you love it just as much as you loved the designs influenced by my city living.

Thank you for buying these shiny objects made with love, made with my own two hands with a side of blood, sweat, dirt and tears.

Shimmering silver...

This wintry hue has my heart...
