The more I explore color, pattern and shape the further I get from the circle I started with. This slab necklace isn’t symmetrical, it is a hand-cut, free form shape. With this series no two necklaces or earrings will be identical, just as shapes, colors and patterns vary on the trail which inspires me.

The base color is a medium grey, like the color of rocks I trample over in the Granite State. These slabs have orange, black and green lichen. I made this collection after a backpacking trip and was inspired by the photos I took trying to recreate the patterns of lichen and how the different colors interacted on the rock’s surface. The back of the necklace has a satin finish, like a hazy sky seen from a summit.

The pendant measures about 9/16’' across and 15/16” long and hangs on a 20 inch chain.

Granite slab necklace is the start of a grand adventure. It is where jewelry making and hiking finally merged. I took my memory of the trail to my bench and recreated the beauty I see in the wild. I look forward to hiking more and sharing how I see the trails with you in the form of jewelry.

thanks for being awesome and buying handmade, kim
